“A multi-agency search operation is underway across the upper reaches of Basantgarh after three suspected terrorists demanded food from a nomad, who was alone in his house in Chigla Balota village,” said a police officer.

The officer said that the nomad, who didn’t open the door, escaped from the rear side and reported the matter to the nearest police post.

The army, J&K Police and CRPF have launched an extensive cordon-and-search operation, combing dense forests and rugged terrain where the suspects were last seen.

The officer, however, said that no contact has been established with the terrorists so far.

Security forces have deployed sniffer dogs and UAVs to track down the terrorists.

For the past couple of years, Basantgarh has become a safe haven for terrorists, who take advantage of dense forests in the hill area and get logistical support from sleeper cells.

The area has seen multiple encounters, hideout busts and terror-related incidents in the past over two years.
