Sewer connections of 9 industrial units snapped for dumping waste into sewage

: Teams of municipal corporation snapped the sewer connections of nine electroplating units on Wednesday for dumping untreated industrial waste in sewer lines.
Officials said that the drive has been initiated after getting a report from Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB). The report had listed the units that were caught dumping untreated waste in the sewer lines in the past.
They added that a total of ten units have been caught and sewer connections of nine of these have been disconnected. The connection of the remaining unit will be snapped soon.
MC commissioner Shena Aggarwal said that regular inspections are being done by the civic body to check dumping of untreated waste by industrial units and action has also been taken against multiple dyeing and electroplating units. She added that recommendations have been made to PPCB to take strict legal action against violators.
The civic body chief added that National Green Tribunal has also taken a tough stance against such violators. She urged the industrialists to take responsibility and stop such illegal practices.
