United Opposition need of the hour to defeat BJP, says Sharad Pawar
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar also targeted the Union government for spiralling inflation and said that the price of a domestic LPG cylinder has increased to above ₹1,100, which is out of the reach of farmers, labourers and the common man
Stressing that a ‘united opposition’ is the need of the hour to dethrone the BJP from the Centre and states, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar said on Wednesday that the NCP will ally with the like-minded parties in Haryana as well to ensure the victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. The NCP chief was in Karnal for Rashtrawadi Mahasammelan here.
“Given the present political scenario of the country, there is a dire need for opposition unity so that the BJP can be evicted from the politics at the Centre and the states”, the former union minister said.
Hinting at the formation of an alliance in Haryana, he said, “The way the NCP contests elections in alliance at the Centre, the party will adopt the same method in Haryana for the next year’s Lok Sabha and Assembly Elections, and we will form the government by fighting both the elections firmly”.
Pawar also targeted the Union government for spiralling inflation and said that the price of a domestic LPG cylinder has increased to above ₹1,100, which is out of the reach of farmers, labourers and the common man. He said he would support slashing the cylinder price to ₹500 if NCP supported government comes to power at the Centre.
Pawar also slammed the government over the poor marketing system and said that the mandi system in the states of Haryana and Punjab is on the verge of collapse. NCP will make all the required changes in the mandi system and will implement them in the entire country. Haryana was known for its agriculture-oriented economy, but due to wrong policies, the farmers of Haryana and Punjab were forced to sit on the Delhi border for one year,” he said.
“On one hand, the farmers and poor people of the country are suffering and still recovering from severe losses due to the Covid pandemic on the other hand, loans of ₹10 lakh Crore of big industrialists and corporate houses were waived off by the government”, he added. He also promised to waive to loans of farmers, labourers and arhtiyas, which is close to ₹ 2 lakh Crore.
Pawar also slammed the government for the Agnipath scheme saying, “Being a former defence minister of the country, if feel that the tenure of the army jawan must be 20 years”.
On this occasion, Pawar also asked the party’s state chief Maratha Virender Verma to get ready to contest elections next year.
