Delhi: Fire engulfs Mukherjee Nagar building, all residents evacuated safely

The police are expected to carry out a detailed inspection of the building to determine the origin of the blaze and assess the extent of the damage.

A major fire broke out in a four-storey residential building in north Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar late on Sunday night, triggering a large-scale rescue operation in which all trapped residents were safely evacuated. No injuries or casualties were reported, officials said.

According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), a call about the blaze was received at around 10.30pm. Firefighters rushed to the spot and found flames engulfing parts of the building.

“Fire broke out in the building and impacted the ground, first and second floor. Seven fire tenders were pressed into service,” a DFS official said.

Fire personnel launched firefighting and search-and-rescue operations simultaneously to prevent the blaze from spreading and to ensure the safety of occupants inside the building. Teams worked for nearly two hours to bring the fire under control around 12.15am, DFS officials said, adding that cooling operations continued for some time afterwards to prevent any possibility of reignition.
