MCD notifies ward distribution for street vendor body polls

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Tuesday issued notification for the distribution of wards across town vending committees (TVCs), following a court order to hold elections for TVCs to regulate street vending zones across Delhi.

According to the notification, Shahdara north zone will have a maximum of three TVCs while Old Delhi area of city-Sadarpaharganj and Karol Bagh will have least one TVC each. In total 23 committees would be constituted with most zones getting two panels each.

In an order issued regarding constitution of TVCs, MCD stated that each TVC shall consist of 30 members, including 12 elected vendor representatives, 6 members nominated by the local body (including chairperson), and 12 nominated members from police, traffic police, market associations, NGOs, banks, RWAs, revenue department, among others. Election for 12 elected members will be held on August 2 and results will be out on August 4.

MCD has also notified the ward wise list of TVC jurisdictions. For instance, in south zone, two TVCs will be put in place. TVC-1 will cover ward 12 wards ranging from ward no 148-159 while the second panel will cover ward number 177 to 189. The addl. commissioner (CL&EC) has been appointed as chief election officer (CEO) to supervise, direct and control the conduct of TVC elections.
