A 26-year-old woman allegedly attacked a 21-year-old woman with acid in northeast Delhi’s Gokalpuri area on Monday afternoon, police said, and added the accused has been arrested. Police said the attacker was allegedly in a relationship with the 21-year-old’s fiancé.

Police said the matter was reported to the Gokalpuri police station, and a team was immediately rushed to the spot. They added that by then, the victim was rushed to the GTB Hospital by her family.
Police said a case has been registered under Section 124(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid) and an investigation has been initiated. As part of the probe, a forensic team visited the scene and collected evidence, they added.
Investigators said preliminary inquiry showed that the victim was due to get married, and the accused, who was allegedly in a relationship with her fiancé, attacked her by throwing acid. The accused was immediately traced and arrested. Further investigation is underway, police said.
