A 30-year-old security guard has been arrested for killing his friend on Sunday by hitting him on the head with a rod.

Vashishtha Pandey, the accused, first told the MIDC police that an unidentified person had killed his childhood friend and colleague, Vijay Shukla, 34, in Chakala, Andheri (East).

However, during the investigation, the police found blood and parts of Shukla’s brain splattered on Pandey’s leg. He later confessed to the crime after being interrogated further. Pandey and Shukla were natives of the same village in Uttar Pradesh and worked in the same security agency. They were deployed on open plot in Chakala.

Inspector Padmakar Deore said Pandey confessed that he was having an affair with Shukla’s wife. On Sunday night, the duo had an argument over the affair following which Pandey attacked Shukla with and iron rod while he was asleep. The accused then went to the MIDC police station and said an unidentified person had killed Shukla.

The police found Shukla lying in a pool of blood with his skull smashed in. Pandey was later arrested and has been remanded in police custody till June 18.
