Faridabad: Teen stabs man to death after being asked not to smoke

Police said the minor, who resides in the same locality as Kanojia, is a school dropout and was allegedly involved in anti-social activities.

A 16-year-old boy was apprehended for allegedly stabbing a 28-year-old man to death in Faridabad after the victim called him a “child” and asked him not to smoke, police said on Saturday.

Police identified the victim as Kishori Kanojia, a resident of Om Enclave in Palla. He lived with his parents and a younger sister. The minor resides in the same locality, police said.

The incident took place around 11.50pm on Friday when Kanojia was having food and liquor with his friend at an restaurant in Deepawali Enclave, officers added.

A police officer privy to the investigation said the minor approached the two men and asked for a matchbox. When the victim’s friend passed it to him, Kanojia casually called him a “child” and told him not to smoke. “The comment infuriated the minor,” the officer said.

Yashpal Yadav, public relations officer of Faridabad police, said Kanojia scolded the minor for abusing him, triggering an argument. The victim’s friend intervened and the minor left, but returned minutes later with a knife, Yadav said.

“He approached Kanojia from behind and stabbed him in the neck, chest and abdomen before anyone could react. He soon fled the spot,” Yadav said.

Kumar and locals alerted police and took Kanojia to a civil hospital, which referred him to a higher facility. He was shifted to AIIMS Delhi, where doctors declared him dead.

On the complaint of Kanojia’s father Ramlaut Kanojia, police registered an FIR under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Palla police station on Saturday.

Police said the minor, a school dropout, was involved in anti-social activities in the area. Kanojia’s body was handed over to his family after an autopsy at AIIMS-Delhi on Saturday.
