LUCKNOW Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that over 500 sportspersons from the state, who participated in world and national championships, would soon be absorbed into the UP Police force and other administrative departments.

He made an announcement to this effect while speaking at the opening ceremony of the five-day 71st All-India Police Athletics Cluster Championship organised at Lucknow’s PAC Ground.
“The government is taking the programme forward so that sportspersons could inspire youths to engage in positive and constructive activities while maintaining physical and mental health,” he said.
He said: “I express my gratitude to the Prime Minister and the home minister for giving UP an opportunity to hold this championship. The event is taking place in the state after a gap of 10 years. I am also glad that the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), which is performing its duty on India’s borders with Nepal and Bhutan efficiently, is one of the organizers of the event. UP shares 560-km-long border with Nepal.”
The CM added that the participation of 1,300 sportspersons from 32 districts had taken the championship to a new level this year.
“Sports play a vital role in the all-round development of a person. Under the leadership of PM Modi, we have seen sports culture develop in the country over the last nine years. Apart from the increased participation of sportspersons in Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, the number of medals won by sportspersons has also gone up,” he said.
Adityanath pointed out: “It shows the capability of a nation. Sports not only help us stay physically and mentally healthy, but also inspire us to deal with difficult situations more effectively. It gives birth to healthy competition and tradition.”
With Sansad Khel Mahotsav, around 2,000-2,500 sportspersons were getting associated with sports events in every parliamentary constituency of UP, informed the CM. “The government is also building sports grounds in villages, mini stadiums in blocks and stadiums in districts, along with sports colleges. The programme to give sports kits to Yuva Mangal Dal and Mahila Mangal Dal is underway on a war-footing as well,” he remarked.
