According to reports, Babhanmai village resident quinquagenarian Neeraj Ojha, the elder brother of former BJP MLA from Raniganj Dheeraj Ojha, informed police that he was going to BJP office at Babhanmai with some of his aides. Around 300 metres before the office, his friends and he stopped at a tea stall. In the meanwhile, nine miscreants on three bikes arrived there and allegedly assaulted them.
The attackers also fired shots as Neeraj tried to flee in a car. Locals rushed to the spot on hearing the commotion and tried to corner the assailants. However, they fled leaving two of their motorcycles behind. Circle officer, Raniganj, Atul Anjan Tripathi reached the spot with a heavy force and launched a search for the attackers.
Tripathi said police had received information of the assault by miscreants but the alleged firing by them could not be confirmed. “Efforts are on to trace the assailants and an FIR will be lodged after receiving a complaint in this connection,” he added.
