Police deployed after clash over loud music in U.P.’s Gorakhpur

Police patrolling in Jumunahiya village, UP after a clash between two communities over loud music during Ram Navami celebrations. Six arrested, situation under control.

Police personnel were carrying out intensive patrolling in Jumunahiya village under Gulharia police station of Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district on Friday, a day after members of two communities allegedly clashed over high volume of DJ music during Ram Navami celebrations at a temple, said police.

Confirming the incident, incharge of Gulharia police station Sanjay Kumar said the situation was under control now. He further said after coming to know about late Thursday night’s clash in which a total 15 people were involved, police rushed there and arrested six of them on Thursday night itself.

According to official reports, members of a community had arranged a programme to mark Ram Navami. However, continuous loud music was disturbing people who were offering “Taraweeh” (evening prayers performed every night during Ramzan).

So, some of them requested one Sunil Bharti to lower the volume. Sources said after exchange of heated words, both the groups clashed. Police station in charge Gulharia said situation was under control but police personnel were carrying intensive patrolling to combat the possibility of recurrence of the incident.
