Affecting roughly 25 million Indians, psoriasis is a chronic auto-immune disease that causes skin irritation, scaling (plaque) and redness on the visible portions of the body.

Dr Saraswat of the Indushree Skin Clinic, shared his clinical observation saying, “For many patients, the social stigma associated with the condition puts a lot of psychological stress, which has a direct impact on their overall wellbeing and mental health. Patients experiencing stress or anxiety due to their psoriasis symptoms can be as high as 75%.”

Dr Shefali Porwal, associate consultant, dermatology, Medanta Hospital, Lucknow said, “Along with treatment compliance, a healthy lifestyle is imperative for effective psoriasis management.”

Doctors said adopting the right treatment plan can help psoriasis patients manage their condition better. There are newer, safer and more effective treatment options available for patients depending on the severity of the condition that can help them lead healthier and happier lives.
