Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Monday demanded that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson who allegedly used offensive language against a religion should be sent jail under strict laws. BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma had allegedly used some offensive remarks during a TV debate recently.

In a series of tweets, Mayawati said, “There should be respect for all religions in the country. The use of offensive language for any religion is not appropriate. In this matter, the BJP should also strictly tighten its noose on its people. Only suspending and expelling them will not work, but they should be sent to jail.”

The BJP on Sunday suspended its spokesperson Nupur Sharma from the primary membership of the party and expelled its Delhi media head Naveen Kumar Jindal after their alleged controversial remarks against the Muslim community.

In a separate tweet, Mayawati said, “It’s important to get to the root of the violence that took place in Kanpur recently. The BSP demands that innocent people should not be harassed in police action after the violence,” she said.
