Tiranga Yatra helps keep freedom movement’s memories alive: UP deputy CM Maurya
In Prayagraj, a Tiranga Yatra led by Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya celebrated India's heritage, honoring the national flag and freedom fighters.
As part of the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, a Tiranga Yatra was organised on Thursday from All Saints Cathedral to Shaheed Wall in Prayagraj.
Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya led the yatra. Participants carried portraits of freedom fighters and marched while holding the National Tricolour as patriotic songs added to the fervour.
Addressing the gathering, Maurya said the occasion serves as a reminder of India’s glorious past and helps keep the memories of the freedom movement alive among young generations. He emphasised that today’s youth should remember the prolonged struggle that led to the country’s independence and uphold the spirit embodied in historic slogans such as “Quit India” and “Do or Die”.
Hundreds of party workers and locals participated in around two-km long march. Describing the Tiranga Yatra as more than just an event, Maurya called it a powerful expression of the people’s commitment to the honour and dignity of the national flag.
“The entire country, the state and Prayagraj stand together on one platform to uphold the pride and glory of the Tricolour,” he said.
The deputy CM said there was a time when the national flag was hoisted only at limited places and faced restrictions in several areas. “Today, the Tricolour is flying proudly at every home and every intersection across the country,” he said.
Referring to Jammu and Kashmir, Maurya noted that Srinagar’s Lal Chowk, once considered a challenging location for hoisting the national flag, now proudly displays the Tricolour.
Responding to a question regarding Independence Day celebrations in madrasas, Maurya said the national flag was being hoisted with full respect in educational and social institutions across the country, including madrasas. He added that slogans of “Vande Mataram” were being raised everywhere as people collectively celebrated the nation’s independence.
The procession concluded at the Shaheed Wall, where participants reaffirmed their commitment to national unity and expressed pride in the country’s freedom and democratic values.
