Police officials said the two assailants stayed in the neighbourhood of the victim’s furniture shop and had a dispute over the construction of a wall some days ago. They said the dispute is the reason for the attack as the victim, who also posed himself as a journalist of a local electronic channel, reportedly harassed them over the issue.

Inspector of Indira Nagar police station, Chattrapal Singh, said that the accused were identified as Ankur Bharti, 26, and a minor boy. He said investigations revealed that Ankur Bharti shot Shahid while the minor was driving the motorcycle at the time of the incident. He said the duo has been booked under charges of Indian Penal Code section 307 for attempt to murder.

He said the victim suffered three wounds to his head, chest and neck and his condition was critical in the trauma centre of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) till the filing of reports on Tuesday.

Earlier, the victim was targeted when he was returning home near the picnic spot on a scooty from his friend’s place in Chaandan village in Indira Nagar at around 12.15 am on Monday night. The police said the assailants followed Shahid’s routine for 5-6 days before committing the crime.
