Tyagi community resolves to oppose BJP in Khatauli bypoll
Annoyed over the harassment of wife and family members of Srikant Tyagi, accused in the infamous case of assaulting a woman in a residential society of Noida, the Tyagi community organised a panchayat in Nawla village a few days ago. After discussion it was decided that all Tyagis would vote against the BJP in the Khatauli byelection.
MEERUT Annoyed over the harassment of wife and family members of Srikant Tyagi, accused in the infamous case of assaulting a woman in a residential society of Noida, the Tyagi community has decided to oppose the BJP in Khatauli constituency byelection.
The Tyagi community, led by BKU leader Mangeram Tyagi of Muzaffarnagar, organised a panchayat in Nawla village a few days ago. RLD’s national general secretary Trilok Tyagi and other leaders also attended the panchayat and after discussion it was decided that all Tyagis would vote against the BJP in the byelection.
The Tyagi community has 7,000 to 8,000 votes in Khatauli in villages like Nawala, Kheri, Ambarpur.
Meanwhile, Srikant Tyagi also campaigned in villages dominated by his clan this week and is expected to do so again on November 30 . He shared how his family was harassed by police on the direction of BJP leaders after the incident. He accused the ruling government of criminalizing the community which always supported BJP. “ Society was outraged and Tyagi community will not vote in favour of the BJP in the Khatauli byelection,” Tyagi said.
Mangeram Tyagi was the leader behind organising a stir against the BJP and he accused the police of harassing Srikant Tyagi’s wife Annu Tyagi and his family members after the incident in a Noida-based residential society.
RLD leader Trilok Tyagi claimed that members of Tyagi community were angry over harassment of Srikant Tyagi’s family. Besides, many of them were farmers who believed they had been cheated by the ruling BJP govt which had assured free electricity and payment of sugarcane dues in 14 days.
Leaders and members of Tyagi community had also staged a two-month long dharna outside the office of divisional commissioner in Meerut, demanding justice for Annu and her family members.
Srikant Tyagi was arrested and jailed on charges of molestation, cheating and rioting. He was granted bail after spending over two months in jail.
Tyagi had identified himself as a BJP leader after having a brawl with a woman over issue of encroachment in his residential society in Noida. A video vent viral on social media in which Tyagi could be seen using foul language and pushing the woman.
His wife later accused Noida police of harassing her and her family to mount pressure for arrest of Srikant Tyagi after the incident.
This angered the Tyagi community which formed an 11-member ‘ Tyagi Biradri Sammaan Bachao Sangharsh Samiti’ and convened a panchayat in Noida, demanding action against police officials who were involved in harassment of Annu and her family.
