U.P.: 800 foreign students from 50 nations apply for admission to LU
Most of these students are from African countries like Ghana, Nigeria, Angola, Trinidad and Tobago, Mozambique among others
Foreign students from more than 50 countries have already applied for admission to Lucknow University (LU) for 2022-23 academic session. The university claims that more than 800 applications have been received from foreign students till May 31 through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

“A total of 766 foreign students have applied for various courses. The interesting thing is that in addition to these, around 35 students have themselves applied for various courses in the self-finance category whereas in the past years the number of self-funded applications remained far too less,” said LU spokesperson Durgesh Srivastava.
Foreign students are still applying to the self-finance category and this number is likely to increase. As far as courses are concerned, there are applications in almost all the faculties of the university.
Most of the applications are from African countries. Students from Ghana, Cambodia, Nigeria, Angola, Trinidad and Tobago, Mozambique, Mauritius, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka have applied for admissions.
This time, applications have been received for the first time from countries like Turkmenistan, Lithuania, Guinea, Comoros, Uzbekistan, Trinidad and Tobago, Angola and a few others.
“Last year, nearly 600 students had applied and about 300 students were expected to come but due to the outbreak of Covid-19, international flights were closed in July-August and most of the foreign students could not come. Last year, around 38 foreign students and the year before 70 students have taken admission in LU,” said Srivastava.
Vice chancellor, Lucknow University, Prof Alok Kumar Rai said, “We have provided various facilities to give excellent opportunities to international students. We are constantly striving for their academic, emotional and other co-curricular development. Our efforts are for excellence in research and teaching. These records are visible in the applications.”
