The UP police issued a list of around 62 gangsters, against whom it is going to initiate legal action under Gangsters’ Act, on Monday. In a press note, UP police said that it is monitoring the activities of these individuals and is also planning a crackdown on them.

“Since March 2022, we have prepared a list of 62 gangsters who are being monitored continuously by the UP headquarters. We are planning a crackdown on them. In May itself, UP Police took action against 788 gangsters under the Gangsters’ Act and attached their properties as per the legal provisions,” said ADG, law and order, Prashant Kumar.
Kumar said that going by the data, UP Police has attached properties worth ₹662 crore under the Gangsters Act between March 2022 and May 2022. Of the total amount, property worth ₹250 crore alone was attached under the Meerut Zone.
The UP Police’s press note further stated that other than these 62 gangsters, the police has also identified other criminals, including 30 land mining mafia, 228 liquor mafia, 168 cattle-slaughtering mafia, 347 land mafia, 18 mafia in education sector and 359 other mafia who are engaged in illegal activities. “Strict action is being initiated against all the mafia by the respective districts and zones in order to keep the crime graph to a bare minimum,” the press note read.
