A part of the stretch of road on Mama Crossing to Gulacheen Mandir route in Vikas Nagar locality caved in on Monday morning, forming a deep pit and affecting traffic. “This road is owned (constructed) by the public works department (PWD). The trunk line of the sewer line of Jal Nigam is passing from the middle of this road. Due to the breaking of the trunk line, pipe or opening of the joint, the soil under the road has been washed out. Barricading was done immediately for the safety of commuters,” said chief engineer, PWD, Sandeep Kumar.
“The Suez India company nominated by Jal Nigam for sewer line repair is doing work in this area. The employees of the company are present on the spot. Preparations are going on for repairing the sewer line by them. After the sewer line is repaired, the work of repairing the damaged part of the road will be done immediately by the PWD,” Kumar added.
Project director, Suez India, Rajesh Mathpal said, “The road suddenly caved in and we swung into action immediately after getting information. The company at once ensured barricading of the road and also diverted traffic for the repair of sewer line. The company has also started the repair work of damaged manholes and sewer pipelines there on a war footing to get it ready for traffic at the earliest.”
“Usually, such incidents happen due to the gas generated in the sewer line and its pressure. The repair work of the damaged sewer line has started. After it is done, the PWD will start repair of the damaged part of the road,” Mathpal added.
