Various global issues to figure in national legislators’ conference: Satish Mahana
The Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly speaker said the conference will help in developing a national outlook among the legislators and participation of the state’s legislators there will help in bringing about an improvement in the perception about the state
Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly speaker Satish Mahana on Thursday said various global issues and the important issues concerning the legislature will come up for discussion at the national legislators’ conference scheduled at Mumbai form June 15 to 17.
“This conference will help in developing a national outlook among the legislators and participation of the state’s legislators there will help in bringing about an improvement in the perception about Uttar Pradesh,” said Mahana while speaking to media persons at the PD Tandon Hall of the state legislative assembly.
Mahana said the conference would provide an opportunity for legislators to interact with their counterparts of other states. He said around 160 legislators had already registered for the conference that would be attended by former speakers of Lok Sabha and presiding officers of state legislature.
He said the Maharashtra Institute of Technology along with Indian Students’ Parliament had organised the conference at his behest.
Uttar Pradesh’s 18th legislative assembly has 18 doctors and 16 engineers. It has 18 MLAs with PhD degrees, 15 holding MBA or BBA degrees etc while 20 others are law graduates or postgraduates. A book that speaker, U.P. legislative assembly, Satish Mahana released here on Thursday gives a break-up about the educational qualification, age groups and details about the members elected for the first or more number of times.
Out of 403 members of the state legislative assembly, five are in the 25–30 age group while four are of 75 year or above. There are 20 members in 31-35 age group while 26 are in 36-40 age group. Forty-four members are in 41-45 age group, 67 in 51-55 age group and 62 in 56-60 age group.
Others include 53 in 61-65 age group. Thirty-eight members are in 66-70 age group. Three members, including minister for finance Suresh Khanna, Durga Prasad Yadav and Awadhesh Prasad, have been elected to the house for 9th or 10th term.
