Bollywood director and producer Mahesh Bhatt allegedly received a death threat from an unidentified person who demanded Rs50 lakh. The accused also threatened to harm Bhatt’s family members by firing at them if he failed to transfer the money to a bank account in Lucknow.

The police on Wednesday registered an FIR under charges of extortion.

According to sources, at 11.45 pm on February 26, Bhatt received the call on his mobile phone.

The accused also sent SMSes and Whatsapp messages to the director, source said.

The case has been transferred to the anti-extortion cell, which is trying to trace the caller. Bhatt’s statement has been recorded.
