Infant among 2 dead in western suburbs

An infant and a 35-year-old man died in separate incidents in Mumbai. The infant died when a wooden loft collapsed, while the man died when a bathroom wall collapsed on him.

An infant and 35-year-old man were died in two non-monsoon related incidents in the city on Thursday.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), two people were sleeping in the wooden loft of a house at Ganpat Patil Nagar in Dahisar West when it collapsed around 4.30 pm after one of its pillars gave way. The loft came crashing down on three people, including a one-and-a-half-month-old boy, on the ground floor. The baby, identified as Aryan Ravindra Pal, died.

Police have filed an accidental death report.

Around 9.30pm, one Kisan Dhulla from Ashok Nagar in Kandivali East died after his bathroom’s wall collapsed on him. He was rushed to Shatabdi hospital but was declared brought dead by the doctors.

A statement from the BMC’s disaster control room said, “A person injured in a bathroom slab collapse was declared brought dead by the chief medical officer of Shatabdi hospital.”

Lalit Talekar, assistant commissioner, R South ward, said, “It is a slum area. Our staff are on the ground.”
