According to the police, the accused, a neighbour of the minor, lured her with chocolate and took her to his house where he sexually assaulted her. The act was repeated for four days thereafter, the officials said, adding that the accused, a resident of Worli area, does odd jobs for living.

The girl’s father is a fisherman. She resides with her two siblings and parents. The incident came to light on Sunday, when the girl complained of pain in her private parts while bathing. When her mother enquired about it, the child narrated how the 25-year-old neighbour, who was known to the family, would take her to his room by offering chocolates and sexually assault her.

“The girl told us that the accused assaulted the child multiple times over five days,” said inspector Kailash Bondre of Worli police station. A woman living in the neighbourhood had also seen the accused taking the minor girl to his house, he added.

“On Monday, we registered an FIR on the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother and arrested the accused,” said Anil Koli, senior inspector of Worli police station. The accused has been booked under sections 376, 377, 354(A)(iii) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 4, 6, 8 and 12 of the POCSO Act, 2012.
