Aaditya meets Guv, seeks Lokayukta inquiry into ‘scams’ in BMC projects

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Wednesday met Governor Ramesh Bais and demanded an investigation by the Lokayukta into the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) alleged ₹6,080 crore scam in the Cement Concrete (CC) road contract and the ₹263 crore scam in the street furniture contract.

“There is also a gravel scam, wherein people are close to the chief minister. And due to the scam, the cost of gravel increased from ₹300 per ton to ₹600 per ton. We have given all details to the Governor and asked him to direct an inquiry from the Lokayukta,” Aaditya said. (HT PHOTO)

Aaditya claimed that he had exposed many scams of the civic body in the last six months, including the CC road contract and the street furniture contract, which was only ₹160 crore and was escalated to ₹263 crore.

“There is also a gravel scam, wherein people are close to the chief minister. And due to the scam, the cost of gravel increased from ₹300 per ton to ₹600 per ton. We have given all details to the Governor and asked him to direct an inquiry from the Lokayukta,” Aaditya said.

He also demanded intervention by the Governor in the matter of encroachments in rivers and attempts to destroy hills in Pune.

Aaditya added that municipal commissioner Iqbal Chahal has not responded to his letters about these scams and BMC has also kept silent on these issues.
