Primary school teacher held for beating, injuring 8-year-old: Assam police

Assam’s Cachar police on Tuesday arrested a lower primary school teacher for allegedly beating and injuring an 8-year-old student with a stick which landed him in the hospital.
Cachar district superintendent of police (SP) Numal Mahatta said they arrested the teacher, identified as Indaj Hussain Laskar, from his house on Tuesday evening.
Police said that the alleged incident took place on Monday and they arrested the accused teacher based on the complaint filed by the child’s mother.
According to her complaint, the teacher beat him so mercilessly that he fell unconscious and was rushed to a local hospital immediately.
“We were informed by the school to reach there. My son explained the entire incident, and we lodged a complaint. We want this teacher to be expelled because he abuses other kids too,” said the mother in her complaint.

“We have instructions to take stern actions on crimes against children and women. In this case, we arrested the teacher immediately after receiving complaint. Further investigation is going on and we are interrogating the teacher,” Mahatta said.
The child was released from the hospital after initial treatment, the SP said. According to the family, the kid is still under mental trauma and has refused to return to school.
Meanwhile, apart from the arrest, the teacher might face departmental actions as well, said officials from the elementary education department adding they have launched a departmental enquiry into the alleged incident.
Last year a head teacher in Cachar district was suspended after he was found walking in the classrooms with a Machete.
