Assam woman dies after falling in drain amid heavy rains and waterlogging: Cops

The district administration also warned of landslides and advised people not to go outside unless necessary

A woman allegedly died after falling into an open drain in Assam’s Maligaon area on Sunday due to heavy rains and waterlogging in Guwahati, said police. The city recorded more than 100 mm of rainfall in three hours.

The deceased identified as Payel Nath was a resident of Dharpur. She was rescued by police and the state disaster response force (SDRF), taken to Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), where doctors declared her dead, police said.

The Kamrup metropolitan district administration on Sunday issued an advisory declaring closure of all educational institutions in the city on April 20.

The district administration also warned of landslides and advised people not to go outside unless necessary.

Parts of the city affected by waterlogging include GS Road, Rajgarh Road, Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Lachit Nagar, Christian Basti, Chandmari, Rukminigaon, Ganeshguri, Hatigaon, Jatia, Wireless, Six Mile, Survey, Odalbakra, Kalapahar, Lokhra, Maligaon Chariali and Boragaon, among others.
