LUCKNOW People in power often lack respect for the people of the country while several public servants are missing the spirit of service, said Justice PK Srivastava, chairman of the state law commission of Uttar Pradesh. He was speaking at a national seminar organised by the Human Rights Department of Lucknow’s Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) on Saturday.

During the seminar, held under the joint aegis of the Uttar Pradesh Human Rights Commission, Justice Srivastava further said, “The word officer is no longer a part of administrative life, it has been replaced by the term public servant. However, the spirit of service is still not visible in public servants.”
The seminar -- organised on the theme “Human Rights: Dignity, Freedom and Justice for All” -- was held under the patronage of Aacharya Sanjay Singh, BBAU vice-chancellor.
The keynote speaker of the program, former Professor DNS Lucknow University, said that human rights are meant to protect the interests of the people and therefore, the government and the administration should be sensitive about it.
Echoing a similar opinion, Professor Preeti Saxena of BBAU said that it is enshrined in our constitution to protect the dignity of every individual and to give a dignified life to all. The government and the administration must ensure that every individual gets his/her rights.
On the occasion, Professor BS Bhadauria, dean of student welfare, spoke about the importance of human rights and the need for their strict adherence for a dignified life.
