‘Properties worth ₹2.5k cr belonging to mafia, their aides demolished in U.P. since 2017’

LUCKNOW: In a statewide crackdown against mafias and their aides, the Uttar Pradesh Police seized and demolished properties worth 2,524 crore since April 2017 when the Yogi Adityanath government formed the anti-mafia task force. These properties belonged to 62 mafias and were allegedly acquired through illegally-earned money.

According to a press note, issued on Wednesday, the state police also ensured convictions of 12 mafias, including that of infamous gangster Mukhtar Ansari, and their 29 associates in 21 different criminal cases. Among them, two were awarded the death penalty while the others were either sentenced to life or sent to rigorous imprisonment.

“In the process, the Goonda Act was slapped against 197 mafias and their aides, the Gangster Act against 405 mafias and their aides, and the National Security Act against 16 other criminals. Besides, cases were lodged against 63 different gangs. Also, history sheets of 311 miscreants were opened to keep a tab on their activities,” said a senior police official.

The cop added, “U.P. Police killed at least nine criminals associated with different mafioso groups in separate encounters. Among those who were eliminated included members of the Mukhtar Ansari gang. The gangster-turned-politician is currently lodged in the Banda jail. The slain criminals also included those from the notorious gangs of the Ghaziabad mafia Billu Dujana, Kuntoo Singh, and Khan Mubarak.”
