Three teenaged girls were allegedly gang raped in different incidents of the Meerut district in the past one month. Videos were made of two of the crimes and put on social media.
The first incident occurred in a village of Bhawanpur police station on February 4 when a 16-year-old girl was returning home after collecting fodder. Three youths, Haseen, Sharon and Sultan of her village dragged her into a field and raped her. They also shot a video of the incident and threatened the girl of putting it on social media if she told her family members.
The terrified girl didn’t share her ordeal with family members but things worsened when the accused put the video viral on social media on Thursday and it came to the notice of her family. The girl then narrated the entire incident to the parents and a complaint was lodged against three accused on Thursday.
Newraj Malik, SHO, Bhawanpur police station, said that a case under charges of rape and the SC Act has been registered and two of the accused, Haseen and Sultan, have been arrested while raids were on to arrest the third.
Another incident occurred on February 15 in a village of Janikhurd police station area. A 15-year-old girl accused seven youths of the village of raping her while she was on the way to her friend’s house. The accused made a video of the incident and threatened to put it on social media if she opened her mouth.
The youths (18 to 20 years) shared the video with some friends and it soon found its way on social media on Thursday. A neighbour informed the girl’s parents about it. The upset girl consumed poison on Thursday night and had to be admitted to a hospital. She is said to be out of danger now.
Prabhakar Choudhary, SSP, Meerut, said that initial investigations revealed that the girl was friends with one of the accused, and a few village youths made a video when the two were physically intimate. That video was put on social media on Thursday. He said a case of rape has been registered on the complaint of the girl’s father and investigation is underway.
In another incident, a 16-year-old girl of Hardwar, in Uttarakhand, ran away from her house a month ago after her mother scolded her.
She took a bus to Saharanpur and then to Meerut. Four labourers travelling in the same bus took her to a room and raped her. The girl later returned to Hardwar. SSP Choudhary said that the Hardwar police registered a case of rape following the complaint of the girl’s family.
