Soon after a mobile phone was found in his possession,an under trial prisoner thrashed an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in the court complex on Wednesday.

The accused, Akash Kumar of Jodhewal, is facing trial in a case of assault and wrongful restraint, which was filed against him in 2017 at the Basti Jodhewal police station. On August 24, after the hearing of his case, the accused was frisked before being taken to the ‘bakshikhana’ –a temporary judicial lock-up at the district courts complex – and a mobile phone was found in his shoe.

On being questioned about how he came in possession of it, the accused allegedly opened attack on ASI Sukhwant Singh and also tore his uniform.

An FIR under Sections 353 (use of criminal force against public servant), 186 (voluntarily obstruct any public servant in the discharge of his public functions), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections of the Prisons Act was lodged against the accused.
