ATM kiosk explodes in failed burglary attempt in Pimpri

PUNE: In a third such incident in Pimpri-Chinchwad since 2021, an ATM was burst open by thieves in an attempt to steal cash from the machine around 3am on Thursday. The ATM belonged to a private bank and the kiosk is located on Talwade road in Pimpri.

According to the police, the burglars could not manage to damage the inner vault that holds the cash in the ATM. Since the kiosk is located at a residential area, the explosion alerted the neighbourhood. The kiosk was badly damaged in the explosion.

A case was registered at Pimpri police station under Indian Penal Code.

In the past cases, cash worth around ₹30 lakh was stolen while in another incident, cash worth ₹16 lakh was stolen after exploding ATMs. In the first incident, the ATM under attack was located in Chakan and the second was located along the Chakan-Alandi road area.
