The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-backed Vidyapeeth Vikas Manch (VVM) panel won 9 seats in the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) senate elections. The final count for the council polls ended in the early hours of Wednesday, leaving the MVA panel with just one seat to show.

The only VVM candidate who did not win was Santosh Dhore, who was campaigned for by SPPU former Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Nitin Karmalkar.
According to the SPPU, the counting for election results began on Tuesday at 8.30 a.m., and results were declared one by one as the process was completed.
In the Schedule Cast (SC) category, Rahul Pakhare won by 13,512 votes, while Ganpat Nangare ran out the winner in the Schedule Tribe (ST) category by 13,995 votes. In Nomadic Tribe (NT) category Vijay Sonawane won by 14,101 votes and in the other backward class (OBC) section, Sachin Gorde succeeded by 13,342 votes. Bhagyashree Manthalkar recorded a win in the woman-reserved category.
In the open category Prasenjit Fadnavis, Sagar Vaidya, Yuvraj Narawade and Dadabhau Shiwalkar from the VVM panel won the election while Bakerao Baste was the lone victor from the MVA panel.
For the elections, a total of 88,900 voters had registered out of which 23,866 cast their votes. The voting was held on November 20 at 71 centres across Pune, Nashik and Ahmednagar districts.
