FDA seizes adulterated food stock worth ₹1.97 crore in Pune district

FDA inspected 353 food establishments and issued improvement notices for non-compliance with hygiene and safety standards

As part of the state-wide drive “Sann Maharashtra, Sankalp Ann Surakshatecha (Safe Food for a Healthy Maharashtra)”, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confiscated adulterated food items worth over ₹1.97 crore from various food business operators (FBOs) in Pune district between August 11 and mid-October 2025, said officials on Thursday.

FDA Pune division inspected 353 food establishments and issued improvement notices for non-compliance with hygiene and safety standards under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and its 2011 regulations to 196 units, said Suresh Annapure, joint commissioner, FDA (food), Pune Division. Of the 654 food samples collected, 216 were tested and 13 samples were declared unsafe for consumption.
