Gang dupe elderly women of gold ornaments in Pune, four held

According to police, over ten cases have been registered against these gang members at various police stations across the city

The accused have been identified as Ganesh Vinayak Gaikwad (32), Ramesh Vinayak Gaikwad (30), a resident of Ahmednagar district; Bandu Laxman Jadhav (42), a resident of Beed district; Haribhau Mohan Kasule (35), a resident of Ahmednagar and Mahadev Asaram Jadhav (50), a resident of Beed.

Arvind Gokule, senior police inspector of Hadapsar police station, said, “The gang members used to put golden polished ornaments on the road to lure senior women commuters. When the women picked up the ornaments, the gang members would approach them and convince them to share these ornaments.’’

“The gang members would ask the elderly women to exchange their gold ornaments with the fake ones,” he said.

According to police, over ten cases have been registered against these gang members at various police stations across the city including Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

There are seven cases registered against them in Hadapsar, two by Bharti Vidyapeeth police station and one by Bhosari police station (Pimpri Chinchwad police).

The police used CCTV footage to track down the gang’s members and later arrested them.

Police said, the accused are from Beed district, they used to visit Pune and after committing the crime in Pune, Chakan and Jejuri they used to return to Beed.

During the investigation police revealed that gang members had committed many crimes in the last two-three years in Chakan, Hadapsar, Bhosari Katraj areas and used to target bus stops and railway stations, said police.

Police have seized 128 grams of golden ornaments, car, mobile total worth 12.44 lakh from them.
