The state declared a paid holiday on December 2 for employees of different establishments, businesses and other workplaces to enable them to vote in elections to municipal councils and nagar panchayats.

The state declared a paid holiday on December 2 for employees of different establishments, businesses and other workplaces to enable them to vote in elections to municipal councils and nagar panchayats.
According to a government resolution (GR) issued on Friday, employees in the districts where voting will take place on Tuesday (December 2) are entitled to get paid leave to exercise their franchise.
Elections to 246 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats (town councils), spread across Maharashtra, will be held in the first phase of the long-pending urban and rural local body polls.
Elections will be held in Alandi, Bhor, Phursungi, Saswad, Junnar, Shirur, and Talegaon Dabhade councils in Pune district. Areas including Baramati, Lonavla, Chakan, Indapur, Jejuri, Shirur, have industrial areas.
“The voters who are living in these areas and going for services in other areas will be able to take a paid holiday,” said Dudi.
