Mohol elected president of Maharashtra Olympic Association

For years, the late deputy chief minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar led the organisation

Murlidhar Mohol, Union minister of state for civil aviation and Pune MP, has been appointed president of the Maharashtra Olympic Association.

The decision was made during a general body meeting at the Balewadi Sports Stadium on Monday.

For years, the late deputy chief minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar led the organisation. This time, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) planned to contest for the post, with both Pawar and Mohol set to run against each other. However, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis found a middle ground, ensuring an unopposed election by appointing Pawar as president and Mohol as vice-president. But after Pawar’s death, the post became vacant.

Mohol said, “It is a great opportunity to serve the sports sector. Late Ajit Pawar led this organisation for many years and did remarkable work. I will try to follow his path and, under the chief minister’s guidance, will bring glory to the sports sector.”

Mohol said, “It will be my effort to strengthen various sports organisations and ensure that more players from Maharashtra compete at national and international levels.”
