On Monday, officials from the Chikhali tax collection office sealed the water connection of two housing societies Aishwaryaum courtyard and Sai Shraddha Park which has around 300 and 176 flats respectively.

This caused panic among residents as most of them have paid the property tax. The action was later revoked after the interference of higher officials from PCMC.

Nilesh Deshmukh, assistant commissioner, and head of the PCMC tax department said, “We have still not finalised the penalty of water connection cut on tax defaulters. The officials from the tax collection department of Chikhali had sealed the water connection and did not cut the water supply line. After intervention the action was immediately revoked. We will take strict action against those who have not paid tax.”

Chikhali-Moshi Cooperative Housing Societies’ Federation chairman, Sanjeevan Sangle said, “Officials from the PCMC tax department are harassing us. Only a few people have not paid the tax. How can the officials cut water supply of the entire society. We immediately contacted Mahesh Landge, MLA from Bhosari who intervened and action was revoked after he spoke with the head of the tax department.”

“Dattatray Deshmukh, chairman, PCMC Housing Societies’ Federation said, “PCMC tax department has cut the water connection of two-three societies in Chikhali which is illegal. Residents were scared and did not have water supply. Last year also the PCMC tax department did the same thing and we complained to the then-commissioner Rajesh Patil. This is illegal and wrong.”

“We will raise this issue with the PCMC corporation administration,” added Deshmukh.
