The police stated that some individuals allegedly pasted Israeli flag stickers on roads in Kondhwa, Bhawani Peth, Nana Path, and the Pune Cantonment areas with the intention of disrupting social harmony and showing disrespect, against the backdrop of the Hamas-Israel conflict, late Friday night.

To prevent any untoward incident, the police have invoked Section 153 (wantonly giving provocation, with intent to cause riot) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and lodged cases at Khadak, Kondhwa, Lakshar and Samarth police stations.

Smarthana Patil, deputy commissioner of police (Zone II), said, “Four individuals have been booked in our zone over the incidents under the Lashkar police station.”

As supporters of Palestine and Israel stay in the city, such acts can cause a situation of conflict, she said.

Sandeep Singh Gill, deputy commissioner of police (Zone I) said, “Incidents have been reported under Khadak and Samarth police station jurisdictions and five have been booked in two cases.”

He said that amidst the international conflict between Hamas and Israel, if someone tries to denigrate one group by this act, this may have repercussions in society.
