After Patil’s intervention, PMC cancels proposed water cuts

Pune Municipal Corporation cancels planned water cut after intervention by district guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil. Maintenance work postponed.

Following the intervention of Pune district guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) water supply department cancelled its planned water cut for Thursday. The civic body had earlier called for water cuts owing to maintenance work undertaken by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) at the Parvati water purification plant.

In that regard, PMC issued a press note on Monday and announced water cuts for all important parts of the city on Thursday. Confirming the development, Water Department head Aniruddha Pawaskar earlier on Monday said, “Due to electrical works at the Parvati water purification plant and pumping stations at SNDT, Cantonment, and Wadgaon, there would be no water supply for parts of the city on Thursday. Some parts are likely to get water at low pressure on Friday.”

Now, after Patil’s intervention, the power supply company has put its repairs on hold. Talking to MSEDCL officials, Patil stressed that considering the adequate water storage in the Khadakwasla dam chain, it would be unjust for the citizens to face water cuts and phased maintenance work in parts of the city would be ideal.

“Since May this year, the city has faced water cuts every Thursday, and I have asked the MSEDCL officials to undertake repairs at Parvati water purification as well as pumping stations at SNDT, Cantonment, and Wadgaon in a phased manner,” Patil said on Monday.
