Pune: Action on stray dog management has begun across Maharashtra in line with Supreme Court directives, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal said on Tuesday, December 9, during the winter session. She was responding to a notice concerning stray dogs in the Mumbai civic limits.

MLAs Atul Bhatkhalkar, Chetan Tupe, Mahesh Landge, and Suresh Prabhu participated in the discussion. Misal added that a meeting of public representatives will be held soon to address the issue further.

“The issue of stray dogs is serious, and the Supreme Court has issued clear instructions,” Misal said.

Local bodies have been directed to capture stray dogs, ensure sterilisation, vaccination and deworming, and provide shelters. Hospitals have also been instructed to maintain mandatory stocks of anti-rabies vaccines. Nodal officers have been appointed at both the state and local levels to oversee implementation.

Revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said a joint meeting of the deputy chief ministers, Urban Development minister, Rural Development minister, and Minister of State will be convened to review progress on the matter.
