State board plans exam fee waiver scheme for girl students of Classes 10 and 12

Pune: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) is planning to introduce a new scheme under which exam fees of girl students will be paid through corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. Under the plan, companies will “adopt” districts and cover the exam expenses of girls appearing for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC/Class 10) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC/Class 12) examinations.

According to board officials, the scheme is expected to be implemented initially in the Marathwada region, considering the socio-economic and geographical challenges faced by students there. Officials said the scheme will not have restrictive eligibility conditions such as income limits or category-based criteria.

Trigun Kulkarni, chairman, MSBSHSE, said on Thursday, “Discussions are underway with CSR organisations and companies regarding financial support for examination fees. A proposal will soon be placed before the executive council for approval.”
