PUNE State’s first dedicated Covid-19 hospital, Naidu infection control hospital, currently has only one Covid-19 patient admitted. During the peak of the pandemic, the hospital was handling about 250 active cases at a time. The current patient was admitted on April 1, and is likely to be discharged in a week.
Naidu infection control hospital was the first Covid-19 dedicated hospital in the state, as the first Covid-19 patients were reported from Pune district. Although Naidu has always been an infection control hospital, the lack of amenities like ventilators meant that it could handle only moderate cases, while serious cases were being referred to Sassoon General Hospital.
Dr Sudhir Patsute, superintendent of Naidu infection control hospital, said, “During the peak of the second wave, we had the highest number of admissions, and the hospital had at least 250 active Covid-19 case patients. As of now, only one Covid-19 patient is admitted. Since March 21, we had only one Covid-19 patient, and the current patient was admitted on April 1. This patient is also likely to be discharged by the next week.”
Naidu infection control hospital in Pune and Kasturba Gandhi hospital in Mumbai were the first Covid-19 dedicated hospitals in the state. As the number of new Covid-19 cases continue to drop, more Covid-19 hospitals are now resuming non-Covid services.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has also brought down its swab collection centres from 200 during the peak of the pandemic to just seven centres now.
