We often hear people complaining about the mess in and around cities, how the government doesn’t do enough to clean the roads and surroundings. People often crib about how difficult it is to even walk around and ask questions such as “when will India change and when will this government do some work for the people of this country?”

And why just others, I, too, have some time or the other blamed the authorities for not doing their job well. Or for not giving routine issues the importance they deserve.

But that’s where the problem lies — in blaming someone else and not doing anything to make a change.

We all seem to know this fact, but find it difficult to accept. We blame the government for the inconvenience we face because of the dirty roads and surroundings.

But was it the government that littered the roads? It was some among us who never care dispose of our waste in the bin.

It’s true that there are exceptions, and not everyone messes up their city, but people who genuinely know their responsibilities as citizens are very few in number.

Next time you plan to blame someone, ask a simple question: Am I fulfilling all my duties as a responsible citizen?

If the answer is yes, then you are the change that this country needs. This is our only hope, to be the change we want to see in our nation.
