BCCI to give discount to Nimbus in new deal

The cricket board signs two deals with sports broadcaster Nimbus - a fresh four-year domestic rights deal and a four-match One-Day International deal.

The Indian cricket board on Thursday signed two deals with sports broadcaster Nimbus - a fresh four-year domestic rights deal worth $672.79 million and a four-match One-Day International deal worth $24.20 million.

Announcing the deal at a hurriedly called press conference at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters, board vice-president Lalit Modi said that the domestic deal starts with the upcoming 2007-08 cricket season.

If public broadcaster Prasar Bharati continues to show the international matches, the BCCI will give a discount of $63.47 million over the said period, said Modi.

Of the four-ODI series, India's three matches are against South Africa in Ireland in June and one against Pakistan in Scotland in July.

The renegotiation of the ODI deal was necessitated after Zee TV pulled out of the contract with BCCI when not given a discount over the compulsory sharing of the live feed with Prasar Bharati.

For the same reason, the Nimbus' deal with the BCCI was renegotiated.
