Commentary

5:22 PM IST The build-up continues - We are just about 4 days away from the mega event, but for now, the warm-up matches continue. We saw a couple of them take place today in Cardiff, with the likes of India and Australia breezing past the likes of West Indies and England, respectively. On Tuesday, June 9, there are four warm-up matches scheduled, with a couple of them beginning at 9 am GMT. However, you can also join us a lot sooner for the build-up. Till then, take care and adios!
5:19 PM IST The skipper of Australia Women - Sophie Molineux says that it is a bit chilly out there. Adds that they did well in all three aspects of the game and they tried a few different combinations with the ball, so plenty of positives. On her not bowling, she jokes that she was benched today, but then adds that they have another warm-up game in the next couple of games, and she might bowl then. Further mentions that she is really pleased to have had three practice matches in the last week. On Ellyse Perry, Molineux says that she was fantastic today, and Perry, along with Beth Mooney, batted brilliantly.
5:18 PM IST The captain of England Women - Nat Sciver-Brunt starts off saying that they didn't have a great start with the bat, but there are a few positives to take as the middle order did well to anchor the inning. She continues and praises the partnership between Alice Capsey and Heather Knight that really revived the inning for them. About her getting back on the field after a long time, she says that he is feeling quite better and her body is feeling okay after 20 overs of fielding.
5:15 PM IST Let's hear what the captains have to say...
5:14 PM IST Recapping the first innings - After winning the toss, Sophie Molineux had no hesitation in putting England into bat. The Aussies kept the scoring in check and picked up early wickets in the Powerplay to put the hosts in a spot of bother. However, Alice Capsey, who is having a fine English summer already, played a fine knock, getting good support from Heather Knight at the other end as well. However, it was a 41-run cameo from Freya Kemp that took England beyond the 150-run mark. For Australia, Alana King was the pick of the bowlers, but the likes of Megan Schutt, Kim Garth and Annabel Sutherland all did a fine job too.
5:11 PM IST Needing a few tweaks - Not the biggest score on the board, but Nat Sciver-Brunt would have liked more from her frontline pacers in the Powerplay. Lauren Filer was a bit all over the place and the spinners couldn't make much of an impact either. Lauren Bell bowled well, and Alice Capsey got a wicket in the only over she bowled, and maybe she could have been used a bit more. Overall, the English bowlers just didn't create enough chances and those few tough dropped chances didn't help either.
5:10 PM IST Perry shows her class - Chasing a middling score of 158, Australia Women started off steadily as Beth Mooney and Georgia Voll added 51 runs for the first wicket before Voll fell. Mooney fell in her 40s, after which Perry and Gardner added a 43-run stand with Perry being the aggressor. The Aussies lost Gardner and Harris in quick succession, but Perry just carried on her merry way, making light work of the chase. However, with just 2 needed for the win, she fell on 64 and couldn't finish the game, but she has done more than enough by then.
5:08 PM IST The Aussies reign supreme - Australia Women ice the run chase and hand hosts England a worrying defeat heading into the mega event. The Aussies outplayed England in all aspects today, and they are once again looking like the side to beat in the World Cup.

OUT! CAUGHT! Excellent take in the deep and Ellyse Perry fails to add the finishing touches. A real drag-down from Lauren Bell, over middle. Peryy leans back to pull but doesn't go through completely with the shot, just checking the pull a bit. The ball flies down to deep mid-wicket, where Danielle Gibson takes a fine catch running to her left. She also manages to flick the ball back up before touching the ropes and keeps composure to take it on the second attempt.
