‘Dismissing him is a very tough task’: Former Pakistan captain identifies a major challenge for India in WTC Final
Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt said that the skipper battle between Kohli and Williamson is also very neck-to-neck.
The World Test Championship (WTC) final between Virat Kohli's Team India and Kane Williamson-led New Zealand is being eagerly looked forward to by the entire cricketing fraternity. After all, the summit clash will bring down the curtains on a two-year-old long tournament. As experts and cricketers continue to discuss the various aspect of the game, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt recently compared the two batting line-ups.
While previewing the grand finale on his YouTube channel, he drew parallels between the batting quartets of Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ajinkya Rahane (of India) and New Zealand's Devon Conway, Will Young, Kane Williamson, and Ross Taylor.
While explaining the reason, he said that both teams have strong openers.
"Both skippers are experienced, both are top players. One team's opener scored a double century recently, and the other team's opener is Rohit Sharma," remarked Butt.
The southpaw further added that the skipper battle between Kohli and Williamson is also very neck-to-neck.
"Dismissing Kane Williamson is a very tough task, but on the other side, you have Virat Kohli who has 70 international tons. Young has done well for New Zealand, Conway performed well, but India has Shubman Gill.
He went on to comment: "Likewise, India has an experienced middle-order option in Ajinkya Rahane while the Blackcaps have Ross Taylor. Both teams are equally matched."
Kohli and Co. will head into the WTC final, slated to begin on June 18, on the back of no match time. On the other hand, the Kiwis will enter the finale high on confidence after beating England 1-0 in their recently-concluded two-match Test series. Following the WTC final, India will lock horns with the English team in a five-match Test series, beginning in August.
The Indian players also played an intra-squad game in the build-up to the marquee clash.
