Dravid to act as prosecution witness in IPL spot-fixing case

Former Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid will act as a formal prosecution witness for the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing scandal, and has reportedly recorded a statement with the Delhi police.

Former Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid will act as a formal prosecution witness for the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing scandal, and has reportedly recorded a statement with the Delhi police.

Sources in the Delhi police said a team was sent to Bangalore on July 10, to record the Rajasthan Royals captain's statement under section 161 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

Dravid reportedly said he was very disappointed over the scandal, and had no idea about the players being involved in it. He said he had always selected players on a match-to-match basis, according to sources.

On May 16, Rajasthan Royals players S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan were arrested in Mumbai by Delhi Police for their alleged involvement in spot-fixing during IPL-6.

A chargesheet in the case will be filed soon, which will include the names of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his aide Chhota Shakeel, said sources.

Sreesanth and Chavan have received bail, while Chandila is still in custody.
