IPL 2022 GT vs RR Highlights: David Miller leads Gujarat Titans to IPL final, Rajasthan Royals lose by 7 wickets

Slog sweep and Padikkal puts Kishore over deep midwicket. Important six that for RR, their first from a player who is not named Sanju Samson. 

RR 107/2 in 13.3 overs 

Rajasthan Royals are 98/2 in 13 overs. Buttler almost falls after miscuing a wild pulls shot off Pandya. It landed safely in no man's land behind the wicketkeeper but this shows how the RR opener has struggled to get going in this innings. He has scored just 29 runs in 30 balls. 

As expected, here is the Gujarat Titans captain with the ball in his hands. He has replaced Rashid Khan and he has Devdutt Padikkal to bowl to. 

Samson has targetted Sai Kishore and he ends up falling to him. He drags it to the long on while looking to send it over long off. He quite bravely gave it some flight, Sai Kishore, and was rewarded for it. The RR captain walks after making 47 in 26 balls

RR 79/2 in 9.5 overs

Buttler almost nicked behind off the second ball after playing for a googly. It only ended up spinning away and it whizzed past his outside edge to the wicketkeeper. 

Two fours from the over, both coming from Samson. He has moved to 44 off 20 and the partnership between him and Buttler has gone beyond 60. 

For the first time since the first over that an entire over has gone without a single boundary. But RR don't need to take unnecessary risks against Rashid, they are already 61/1 inside 7 overs. 

Short down leg and Samson swivels around to put the ball past the boundary once again. He is in some form today. 

Alzarri Joseph had sent in a 147kph tomahawk into Buttler's pads first up and Samson responds by sending him into the stands off the very next ball. Joseph gets some lift off the deck but none of it matters when the RR captain is batting like this, goes downtown and it goes deep into the Eden Gardens stand. 

Samson ends the fifth over with back to back fours! Shami goes full on the pads and Samson sends him through midwiicket. He moves to 18 off 8 and RR are 42/1 in 5 overs. 

That seemed close to the naked eye but replays show that Rashid Khan was nowhere close to taking that catch. Samson drills Shami towards long on aerially and Rashid Khan puts in a full stretch dive to his left. There was some distance between his hand and the ball. 

Shami won't be too happy with how things have started for him today. He sent that one so far down the leg side that Saha couldn't get to it despite a full stretch dive. That makes RR's score 33/1 after 4 overs and Shami has conceded 21 runs in 2 overs. 

Samson making his intentions clear here. He left the second ball alone thinking it might be called wide but it wasn't. The next one he smashes between cover and mid-off. 

Samson almost nonchalantly hits it on the up for a six off the very first ball he faced in this innings. That's one effective way of getting off the mark. RR 24/1 off 3.1 overs

Oh what a shot that is. He gets on top of the bounce and hits a third boundary off Shami now through the covers. Three quite similar kind of shots for four from Buttler and he moves to 14 off 8. RR 17/1 in 2.4 overs. 

Jaiswal hardly looked comfortable throughout his brief stay in the middle and he succumbs early. Brilliant delivery from Dayal that draws Jaiswal into the drive, but it is not there to be drive. Ends up getting a nick to Saha behind the stumps and he has to go after scoring three off eight balls. RR 11/1 after 2 overs. 

And Buttler gets another! Gets it past Wade at mid-off for his second boundary and he moves to eight off four balls. RR take nine runs in the first over. 

Pitched up outside off by Mohammed Shami and Buttler deposits it to the boundary with a lovely cover drive. That is the second ball he faced and he gets off the mark in style. 

Hardik Pandya leads Gujarat Titans past the IPL Trophy. Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal walk out for Rajasthan Royals. The Eden Gardens is absolutely bouncing and yes, the skies are looking nice and dark, not a cloud in sight. 

It remains nice and clear at the Eden Gardens so no chances of interruptions it seems for now. 

“Its good to be top and playing the playoffs, another opportunity for us to come and express our skills. As a whole team, whatever happened in the last 14 games, we learn from our mistakes and we enjoy our cricket and try to give our 100 percent. I played one final and 4 playoff games and I think that experience will really help me. I was missing my line and length in the first few games and from thereon I had the focus and I bowled more in the net session with focus on target bowling and it is all about pitching on the right area and right length and that's how I got better and took more wickets. Played enough cricket all around the world and most of the players played here and we need to adjust to the situation and conditions will be the key for us.”

Hardik Pandya hardly stuck around after saying his piece during the toss. He rushed straight back to Ashish Nehra, marked his run up and has been steaming in since.

Hardik Pandya: We gonna bowl first. Looks a decent track to bat on, but no matches in the last couple of months and just want to know what we are chasing. Boys are pretty pumped up for this game. We treat this game as simple as possible and make sure you focus on what is controllable and making sure the intensity is high and aware of what the situation demands.

Sanju Samson: We have done well batting first, looks like a decent batting wicket let's see what happens. Important to keep your focus on the present game and take care of what is controllable. We have been playing some great cricket throughout the tournament and would like to repeat it again and I think the format is such that you can go here there, but like to keep it simple and maintain our standards.
