Catch all the live action from India vs England, fourth Test Day 2, below:
Stumps Day 2
England end Day 2 on 6/0, trail India by 21 runs. Keaton Jennings avoids a pair and ends the day 4 not out. Match evenly poised.
Uncomfortable 10 minutes for England
It will be an uncomfortable little time for England as Indian seamers can come charging in. Jennings on a pair.
India are all-out for 273, Bumrah the last man out for 6, India have a lead of 27 runs, not much but it could have been much worse.
Something new for cricket fans
We have seen something new today, Pujara hitting over mid on with Broad bowling with the new ball and then we have Bumrah defending like he is a proper batsman.
Pujara, Bumrah frustrate England
Pujara and Bumrah have added 34 runs for the last wicket. You can see frustrations building up for England.
India take lead
India have taken the first innings lead at Southampton. The lead, however big it turns out to be could prove crucial.
India closing in on England score
India are closing in on England’s score. It looked highly improbable at one time. Big effort by Pujara and co.
Century for Pujara
Cheteshwar Pujara gets 100 #15. He goes down the ground to Moeen to bring up his hundred. Big innings by India number three.
Ishant Sharma goes for 14, caught at short-leg. Moeen gets another. India 9 down and still trail by 19.
Ishant looking for runs
Usually stoic, Ishant Sharma is looking for runs rather just to defend. Sharma and Pujara have added 21 runs for the 9th wicket.
Ishant looking to provide Pujara support
Ishant has shown signs of staying put at the wicket here. Pujara in the meantime is looking to up the ante, but he hasn’t quite managed to do that. He is hitting most of them to the fielders and that has not helped. India need to come as close as possible to the English total here.
Pujara holds fort
Pujara is fighting a lone battle here, even stuck on the head again, this time by Anderson. He is trying his best to keep the scoreboard moving as he only has Ishant and Bumrah to back him here. Ishant though can bat and he will look to hold one end up and help Pujara take India as close to England’s first innings total as possible.
Moeen on a roll here
Moeen Ali strikes back to back. Shami is gone now. Cleaned up after Ashwin played the reverse sweep and is cleaned up. The English bowlers are celebrating here and this is pathetic application from the Indian batsmen. Shami goes for 0 after Ashwin goes for 1 as the score reads 195/8.
Moeen gets Ashwin
What was that? Unbelievable batting from Ashwin here as he plays the reverse sweep and is cleaned up here. The English bowlers are celebrating here and this is pathetic application from the Indian batsmen. Ashwin goes for 1 as the score reads 195/7.
Moeen Ali strikes
Moeen Ali strikes here and this is big as Pandya goes for 4. This is an important session as India will need to bat well and get a lead here to stay alive in this game. England need a couple more wickets here to sit on top. Pujara is holding fort for India and will look to score a big hundred here. The score reads 189/6.
Important session this as India will need to bat well and get a lead here to stay alive in this game. England need a couple more wickets here to sit on top. Pujara is holding fort for India and will look to score a big hundred here. India need runs on the board here as they will be batting last.
Moeen gets Pant on the stroke of tea
Moeen Ali gets Rishabh Pant as he goes for a 29-ball duck. Pant goes at the stroke of tea here and the players walk off for the break. The score reads 181/5 with Pujara holding fort on 70. This game is wide open and England have definitely clawed their way back into the game.
Pujara looking to pounce on the bad balls
Having spent decent time at the crease, Pujara is now looking to make most of the bad balls. Stokes pitches one up and Pujara goes into the drive and then flicks the next one to send it to the fine-leg boundary. Patience is his virtue and that has seen him do so well even as the other batsmen have failed to carry on after settling down.
Pant looking to show grit
For a batsman who is aggressive by nature, Pant has played out 15 balls and is yet to score a run. Shows that he is looking to fight it out in the middle. Does not want to take any undue risk against the English bowlers as they have their tails up.
Pujara takes a knock
Stokes pitches it short and the ball rises to hit Pujara on the helmet. The English players come in to check with Pujara as Patrick Farhat runs in to take a look at the batsman. Looks good from the outside and should not be anything serious. The score reads 167/4.
Pujara and Pant look to consolidate
With Kohli and Rahane back in the hut, Pujara and Pant are now looking to hold fort and score runs to ensure that India get the lead in the first innings. Having lost 4 wickets, it is only going to get more difficult for the Indian batsmen as the English bowlers look to make further inroads.
Stokes gets Rahane
Rahane is gone. Luck finally runs out for Rahane as he goes for 11 off 14 balls. A very uncharacteristic knock from Rahane and he could not make much of the life he got earlier in the innings. The review goes against Rahane as he is caught plumb in front. Stokes celebrates as India lose number 4. The score reads 161/4.
Rahane gets a life
Rahane gets a life on 5 as the Indian deputy flashes hard outside off to a ball that moved late from Stokes. Root tries his best to get a hand to this, but does not manage to hold onto that one. A good attempt at gully, but the batsman survives. Rahane must look to build on this.
Pujara gets 19th fifty
Good knock here from Pujara as he scores a fifty here. He needs to stick it here and score a big hundred. He missed out on one in the last Test, but he is too good a batsman to miss two in a row. The English batsmen need to get quick wickets here.
Curran gets Kohli
Sam Curran has done it here. Gets Kohli to drive and that one goes to Cook at first slip and he makes no mistake. A good catch low to his right as Kohli goes for 46. The English players are celebrating as a dejected Kohli walks back. This was an unwanted shot as the ball was almost on the 5th stump.
Kohli closes in on another 50
Both Kohli and Pujara have moved into the 40s and they will want to make this the stepping stone to a big 100. India need to bat big here and ensure that the English batsmen are on the backfoot when they take strike in the second innings. The Indian batsmen have looked solid in the second session so far.
England turn to Moeen Ali
With the pacers failing to break the defence of Kohli and Pujara, Root has now introduced Moeen from one end to bring more variation. The wicket has eased off and it is playing really well. This is the best condition for the Indians to bat on and it cannot get any better. The second day is anyway considered best for batting.
Kohli & Pujara take strike after the break
The players are back after the lunch break and England will look to pick wickets here and make a strong comeback in this game. Kohli and Pujara have looked solid and the English bowlers definitely have their task cut-out. India will want their No.3 and No.4 to play out this session and get a solid score on the board.
Lunch on Day 2
Moeen Ali bowls the last over before lunch. This session has to be India’s in the way Kohli and Pujara finished off here. While England did pick 2 wickets in this session, Pujara looked rock solid in the company of Kohli. While the India skipper is batting on 25, Pujara is batting on 28. The score reads 100/2 after 31 overs.
Root turns to Jennings
With the top bowlers failing to break the partnership between Kohli and Pujara, Root has turned to Jennings just before the lunch break to try and use the opener as a change-up. Can he be the man with the golden arm for England? A wicket will be important for England at this stage.
Pujara starting to open up
Having defended to start with, Pujara is now slowly opening up and looking to play a few shots now with Kohli for company. Kohli has looked positive from the word go and this looks like the Indian batsmen are finding it pretty comfortable here. Kohli is anyway in the form of his life. The score reads 86/2.
Kohli goes past 6000 Test runs
Outside off and Kohli flashes hard as the ball heads to the boundary. Anderson is not happy, but Kohli has reached another landmark. Goes past 6000 Test runs and does that in 119 innings. Only Gavaskar managed it in fewer innings — 117. What a player.
Kohli starts in style
Broad induces the drive outside off and Kohli obliges. The shot hits the middle of the bat and races to the boundary. What a start here from the Indian skipper. Clearly, the intent is clear and the English bowlers must be careful here as the wicket will no longer have the movement it had on the opening day.
Broad sends back Dhawan
The perfect ball from Broad and Dhawan edges to Jos Buttler and that is the wicket England wanted. Dhawan goes for 23 having tried to play out the morning session. The wicket has helped the bowlers and the English bowlers have bowled a nice line. Kohli to come in next.
First hour shared
The first hour has been shared by India and England. While the hosts picked the wicket of KL Rahul, the Indian batsmen have ensured that they did not give away any more wickets to the English bowlers. The wicket has helped the bowlers and the English bowlers have bowled a nice line. The score reads 50/1.
Dhawan and Pujara look to consolidate
The English bowlers have bowled well and maintained the pressure on the Indian batsmen. Dhawan is looking to rotate the strike and not get bogged down. Pujara though has once again found it difficult to get going here and is stuck. England must pick wickets fast.
Root turns to Curran
England need wickets here and Root has turned to Curran as he feels that the left-hand bowler can change the angle and that can help. India will want to play him out as they had in the past struggled against his angles. India will have to play well to ensure they can get a good lead here.
Anderson and Broad keep India in check
With Pujara taking strike in Dhawan’s company, the England bowlers are looking to make early inroads. The ball is moving around and the English duo of Anderson and Broad are bowling a tight line here. Wickets are the only way for England to make a comeback into this game.
Broad gets KL Rahul
Stuart Broad has struck early and KL Rahul goes for 19. That was nipping back in after pitching and the umpire took his time to give that OUT. Rahul went for the review, but did not work. The score reads 37/1. Rahul walks back dejected. Pujara will now join Dhawan at the crease.
Anderson starts proceedings
Anderson starts the show for England as Dhawan and Rahul take strike. Having played out 3 overs on Thursday, the two will now look to play out the first session without losing a wicket. England need quick wickets here to stay alive in this game.
