Pujara has now extended his century drought in Tests to 41 innings, the last happening in Sydney in January 3 of 2019.
Former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar was critical of Chesteshwar Pujara's approach against New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel en route to his five-ball duck in the second Test of the series in Mumbai in Thursday.
Ajaz delivered a nice loopy delivery as Pujara, with his usual approach against spinners, shimmied down the track to flick it across the line. But the ball dipped and spun away, past the bat and rattled against the off stump as Pujara registered his 10th duck in Test cricket, fourth at home, second in this year and first against New Zealand.
Bangar, speaking to Star Sports, explained that Pujara had yorked himself by charging out against the fuller delivery from Ajaz and looked to play against the turn.

"Here he was looking to go against the turn and the fuller length because we also mentioned in our stint is a lot of deliveries from Ajaz Patel were actually fuller lengths, they were driving deliveries. But by going out, he yorked himself there and that caused his dismissal. So two things, yorking himself and then looking to go against the turn, that led to his dismissal," he said.
Pujara has now extended his century drought in Tests to 41 innings, the last happening in Sydney in January 3 of 2019. His average too has now fallen to a career-low figure of 44.26
With the dismissal, he equalled an unwanted Indian feat for most ducks by a No.3 batsman in Test cricket, surpassing Rahul Dravid and equalling Dilip Vengsarkar for eight each.
Ajaz had also dismissed captain Virat Kohli for a duck, his 14th in Test cricket and also first against New Zealand. With the dismissal, it became the third instance where India's No.3 and 4 were dismissed for a duck in the same Test innings at home after England Test in Kanpur back in 1951/52 series and against West Indies in Mumbai in 1994/95.
